RAINSTICK

An instrument made from different species of cactus filled with pebbles that has a sound evocative of rain falling. Believed to have been invented by the Aztecs, they were played as a prayer to bring about rainstorms. It produces sounds similar to that of falling rain, and are often used for inducing states of peace and calm.
